Band Opportunities for Individuals FAQ
South Central Iowa Bandmasters Association ( SCIBA)
SCIBA has many opportunities for band students. Which include large group (concert band) and Honor Band that individual students audition for as well as festivals that a full band from our school may join. Auditions take place in early December and the concert is in early January.
SCIBA also has Jazz honor bands that are audition based and gather students from the area . And Jazz band festivals where bands compete against each other. These auditions take place in early March and the concert is in mid-May. Some of these performance opportunities are given a ranking and placement, others are for an evaluation and rating.

All State
All State is an audition based event that happens statewide. The state is split into 6 districts and each district holds auditions in which a set number of each instrument is selected for either the orchestra or the band. Auditions spots are preselected at school by our directors and happen at the end of October for the festival in November. Selected students will go to Ames to work as a full band/orchestra with guest conductors and prepare for a concert on Saturday night. The Festival is held the Thursday-Saturday the week before Thanksgiving and the concert is aired Thanksgiving night on IPTV.
All State also has opportunities for Jazz performers. Auditions for this take place in early March with a concert in mid-May.

Perry Solo/Ensemble
Perry Band Olympics is a solo/ensemble festival. Band students create their own ensembles should they choose to. Our band program has sent many different ensembles such as a saxophone trio or flute duo. They play for and are given a rating. The festival also gives awards for top placements in each instrument and for each type of ensemble.
College Honor Bands
There are many colleges around the state that give more opportunities with an Honor Band. Drake, Iowa State, University of Northern IA, etc. These bands usually take place throughout the winter and spring.
